Student of the Month: Because No Victory Is Too Small

The Autism Oasis Student of the Month program is our way of recognizing the effort, creativity, and perseverance of the students in our homeschool community. Every student is working hard. That might look like mastering a new math concept, sitting through something difficult without shutting down, or simply showing up and trying again.

No victory is too small. We celebrate every step of the homeschool journey.

And the victories our families share? They remind us exactly why this community exists.

Aaron spent five years in the public school system without access to foundational learning. Since enrolling in Nonverbal Autism Homeschool, he is spelling words, creating sets, mastering addition facts, and writing letters independently. His mom Kourtney describes the transformation as "nothing short of amazing."

Jubilee has been using Proloquo to type her spelling words for over a year. With consistent effort, she can now type a full list of words independently — and when given a phonetic sound prompt, she can type the word without even looking at it. Her dad Chris shared that milestone with so much pride, and we felt it too.

Elliott's strength is in reading and writing, but math has been a harder road. When it came time to count to 100, a number train puzzle made all the difference — helping him see the pattern in each group of ten and proving to himself that he could do it. His mom Taran wrote that she is grateful for a curriculum that allows Elliott to demonstrate his intelligence. So are we.

Finley picked up addition with ease, but subtraction was a different story. Changing her thought process to work in reverse did not come naturally, and it took five weeks and a few adaptations to get there. She did it. Her mom Amber could not be more proud, and neither could we.

These are just a small handful of the wonderful achievement stories our community has shared with us.
