Your student's disability isn't intellectual, it's physical.

Nonverbal Autism Homeschool presumes competence and teaches easier ways for nonspeakers and minimal speakers to show academic mastery of mainstream lessons.

Reading

Academic success begins with reading. We begin with phonics, sight words, vocabulary and reading comprehension. Higher grades include grammar, creative writing and literature.

AAC

Tired of waiting for AAC? You can purchase Proloquo2Go in the Apple store and a cheap, refurbished iPad. This optional module teaches you how to format, navigate, customize and model the app for your student.

Math & other subjects

We use toys, counters, puzzles and other manipulatives to teach math concepts. Nonverbal Autism Homeschool also includes science, social studies and art lessons for each grade.

Dignity

We expose students to age-appropriate academics that respect their intellects and make learning fun. Beginning foundational skills are taught without infantizing older students.

I know this system works: I used it to teach my son how to read!

My son, Tosh, is 12 years old and has severe, nonspeaking autism. Six years ago, we met Mr. Sims when he was assigned to be Tosh's homeschool EF by our charter school. Like many parents, I had given up on our local public school system to provide the least restrictive environment as mandated in my son's IEP.

At the time, Tosh couldn't demonstrate the ability to count beyond 7, he couldn't read, and he could barely write his name. He became agitated when asked to do any school work and couldn't attend to a task or listen to a teacher for more than a couple of minutes.

After just one school year under Mr. Sims' direction, Tosh made unbelievable progress. He is now reading at a fourth grade level, learning multiplication and division, grammar, creative writing and geography. Even though he requires significant accommodations, he is learning age-appropriate, grade level history, literature and reading comprehension using a letterboard.

My son is not a genius. He's bright, but he has challenges when it comes to learning. I had zero teaching experience. But with Mr. Sims' help, we did it. And so can you!

Mr. Sims and I are very passionate about the rights of nonspeaking and minimumally speaking autistic people. We are honored to create this program and change the lives of kids like Tosh.

"An average parent, who will dedicate a couple of hours per day to their student, can achieve so much more than I can all day long in a group classroom."
